Studies have shown that people in Europe spend 90% of their time indoors. Recent research by leading environmental protection organisations demonstrates that our indoor air in home and work situations is generally much more polluted by biological and chemical contaminants than outdoor air.
Despite progress, it seems from the annual assessments of air quality in Europe by the EEA (European Environment Agency) that air pollution still continues to pose a threat to human health and the environment. The air pollution levels in many European cities still exceed both the EU's legal limits and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines on the protection of human health. According to studies and alarming reports by expert institutions such as the WHO, EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the Dutch Health Council, the indoor air in our living, working, and mobility areas is often 2 to 5 and even up to 100 times more polluted than the air outside due to biological and chemical loads!
A healthy indoor climate, which is also perceived as pleasant, natural and fresh and conveys a feeling of comfort, is determined by an optimal interaction between humidity, temperature, air movement and air quality (clean breathing air, oxygen content and ion concentration in the air).
Humidity is often the critical factor for an ideal indoor climate. Excessive relative humidity in homes, apartments or buildings can give people health problems. Excessively dry air can have adverse effects on health.

Our range of effective, stand-alone Clean Air Optima® air treatment systems includes air purifiers, humidifiers, air washers, dehumidifiers, hybrid models for simultaneously humidifying & purifying air or dehumidifying & purifying air, fans, electric-ceramic fan heaters and models suitable for aromatherapy.
The effect
The innovative and energy-efficient Clean Air Optima® air treatment systems with their modern design transform poor, unhealthy, dry or excessively humid indoor air into clean air for breathing. Viruses, bacteria, fungi, pollen, particulate matter, harmful substances and unpleasant odours are filtered out of the air and the relative humidity of the air and temperature in indoor spaces are adjusted to and maintained at the right level.

The Clean Air Optima Group has now evolved into a specialist and full-line provider of mobile systems to improve indoor air quality and into an internationally renowned e-commerce business As of the year 2022, the organisation consists of the parent company Clean Air Optima International B.V. with its Dutch headquarters in Hengelo (Ov.), the subsidiary Clean Air Optima International Distribution B.V. for distribution in Europe and the German sister company and design centre Clean Air Optima Germany GmbH.

Clean Air Optima story
From idea to enterprise
With ample experience gained in the electrical industry and technical trading company, twin brothers Jeroen and Frank Kortenschijl decided to become entrepreneurs based on their vision of wanting to help people live healthier and longer lives by ensuring clean and well-conditioned air in spaces where people live, work and recreate.
“Breath is the essence of life”
The interior has become the typical abode for modern man. It’s somewhere we often spend as much as 90 per cent of our time. A human being breathes in and out an average of 18,000 to 24,000 times a day. This means that an average-sized adult who does not perform heavy physical labour inhales and exhales an average of 11,000 litres of air per day. This greatly exceeds the amount of food and drinking water consumed each day. While food and water can be carefully selected, this is generally not possible with the air we breathe.
According to research and alarming reports by qualified institutions such as the WHO, EPA and the European Environment Agency (EEA), the indoor air in our living, working and mobility areas is often 2 to 5 and even up to 100 times more polluted than the air outside due to biological and chemical loads!
Anticipating this, the two entrepreneurs decided to establish the Clean Air Optima® brand and the company Clean Air Optima International B.V. and to launch a range of effective new mobile air purifiers with multi-filter technology to be sold online in the Benelux, allowing prospective customers to protect themselves from the risks of poor, unhealthy indoor air in their living spaces at an acceptable purchase price.

Launch of Clean Air Optima® smart air purifiers. Expansion of the smart dehumidifiers product group to include 2-in-1 function for effective dehumidification and air purification. Our passion for creating a healthy indoor environment for our customers keeps our motivation for innovation of a high-quality and modern range of mobile air-handling systems unabated. Sharply increased demand for dehumidification in living and working spaces was concrete reason to significantly expand this product group in 2021.
